A large number of people are taking advantage of 24-hour online loan application services, according to Halifax.
The company's head of unsecured loans, Neil Chandler, also said that many customers now prefer to manage their finances online.
Speaking after the building society unveiled research which found that Monday afternoons were the most popular time for people to apply for loans, Mr Chandler also said that Halifax's own application process only takes around 10 minutes.
He added: "Our results show that although weekday afternoons are the time most of us look to apply, an increasing number of people choose to make use of our 24-hour online service often sorting out their finances into the small hours of the morning."
The release of Halifax's findings has followed previous research that claimed around one in ten parents in the UK are thinking about taking out a loan to fund their children's time at university.
In addition, two-thirds of the survey's participants claimed they may decide to use their wages to fund their child's passage through higher education.
